Air-fryer Asian tofu bites with Sweet Chilli sauce

Share the Post:

Frying is one of the most used cooking methods in the Asian kitchen. While definitely tasty, frying isn’t that healthy. As we’ve discussed in our other blog about the different cooking methods for tofu, air-frying results in a comparable texture and taste as frying while using much less oil, making it much less fatty and calorie-dense. We’ve also included a tasty and easy sweet & spicy sauce to dip your Chinese tofu bites in. The best thing about this recipe is that there’s almost no marinating involved since the Chinese myTofu flavor is ready-to-cook out of the package. We will only marinate them with some cornstarch, olive oil, and optionally some additional spices as a bonus. So without further ado, let’s get into this recipe!

Chinese myTofu air fried with sweet and chilli sauce

Ingredients – tofu marinade:

  • 200 grams myTofu Chinese
  • 30 grams conrstarch
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of sambal
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

Ingredients – sweet chilli sauce:

  • 10ml white wine vinegar
  • 70ml water
  • 30 grams sugar or sweetener (use a low amount, depending on your sweetener you should use no more than 0.5 to 5 grams)
  • Halve a teaspoon of salt
  • 2 teaspoons chilli powder
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 3 grams cornstarch mixed with 3 grams water.

How to prepare your Sweet Chilli sauce?

  1. Put a saucepan on medium-high heat and combine your white wine vinegar, water, sugar, chilli powder, and garlic. Make sure to use a garlic press to prevent big pieces of garlic from being in your sauce.
  2. Bring the sauce to a slight simmer and add your cornstarch water mixture to the sauce.
  3. Let the sauce simmer for some more time.
  4. Put your sauce in a bowl or on a plate and enjoy!

How to prepare your Tofu?

  1. Add all of your ingredients for the marinade together in a bowl
  2. Mix your marinade and myTofu Chinese
  3. Put your marinated tofu into the airfryer on 200º celsius (400º fahrenheit) for about 10 minutes or until all sides are golden brown. Make sure to toss your tofu around after about 5 minutes.
  4. Take your tofu out of the air-fryer, take your sauce, dip, and enjoy!
